For example, if your 2022 Christmas demand is lower than 2021, this reflects a decline in demand.    The Annual Demand performance Report compares yearly demand levels and helps paint a clear picture of demand trends at the aggregate level. In turn, retailers can then use this information to improve demand-generation initiatives.   ## What the report shows The report compares this year's demand with last year's, metric by metric. - **Demand totals:** demand sales, demand orders, and demand units. - **Averages:** average unit revenue and average order revenue. - **Margin:** demand gross dollars and demand gross margin. - **% change:** the change from the previous year for each metric.   ## How teams use it Sales and retail leaders use the % change column to see whether demand is growing or shrinking, and why. If demand orders rise while average order revenue falls, the business is taking more orders but each one is worth less. The margin columns show whether growth came at the cost of profitability, for example through heavy discounting. Comparing key selling periods, such as the holiday season, year over year helps teams plan inventory and set realistic targets for the next peak. eCommerce leaders use the results to judge which demand-generation efforts paid off and where the next year's budget should go. Average unit revenue adds another angle. If it rises while units fall, customers are buying fewer items at higher prices, which can reflect a shift toward premium products or a change in pricing strategy. Reviewing these numbers together gives leadership a clearer story of the year than revenue alone can tell.
